About Us
The Family Crisis Center began in April 1980. A group of people from the community of Ada met to ascertain the need for services for battered women in the Ada area. The group included professionals, as well as people from the general community. In October 1980 ‘Ada Services for Battered Women’ became officially incorporated as a non-profit organization. Official name of the corporation was Southeastern Oklahoma Services for Victims of Domestic Violence’. In June 1982, the Shelter opened its doors for services to battered women and their children.
Family Crisis Center covers Garvin, Pontotoc, Coal and McClain Counties.
Our Philosophy
Our Mission
The mission of the Family Crisis Center is to oppose the use of violence and support equality in relationships. This organization endeavors to break the generational cycle of violence. The programs of the Family Crisis Center seek to educate, support, protect and advocate for those affected by domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. We provide offenders with appropriate, effective programs and services. In addition, we provide community training, education and collaboration to foster a coordinated community response to domestic violence.
-
All persons have the right to live without fear, abuse, oppression, and violence.
-
There should be equality in relationships and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking should be helped to assume power over their own lives.
-
No one deserves to be victimized by assaultive or abusive behavior.
-
Survivors should be treated with dignity and respect.
-
All people involved in violent crimes are affected: victims, children, families, partners, friends, the community, and perpetrators.
-
Offending is a choice, and perpetrators of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking are solely responsible for their behavior.
-
These perpetrators must be held accountable for their behavior.
-
A coordinated community response team (CCRT) and a sexual assault response team (SART) is the best approach to holding offenders accountable for victim safety and progress to eliminating domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking in Oklahoma.
-
Safety for the victims/survivors and their dependents is the primary focus of intervention and services.
-
Intervention and services are based upon the safety and well-being of individuals and communities. Services to victims are provided in a non-judgmental, non-coercive, trauma-informed environment.
-
Participation in victim/survivor services is voluntary and based on self-determined needs, preferences, and values.
